Q1  My JrFLL Team is not from Maryland, can we still participate?

Registration is only for the Maryland JrFLL  teams. We encourage you to participate in your state's in the Expo.

Q2 How much space will my team have for their display?

Each team will have a standard 6 foot table. Please let us know if you need any special accommodations such as electric, wall space, etc.

Q3 What should my JrFLL team display look like?

We encourage teams to be as creative! Typical displays have some type of poster display, pictures of the team members in action, and LEGO creations. Have fun!

Q4 What will the judges be looking for and asking our team members?

Our panel of very kid friendly judges will be asking the teams questions about what they have learned as being a part of their JrFLL team. They will want to know what the kids enjoyed the most and how they like to build with LEGOs. Our judges will be sure to notice specifics of individual displays so they ask questions the team members will be able to answer!

Q5 Should our team have a prepared presentation?

Yes, the team should be prepared to explain their display and their experience in JrFLL. They do not need to have a “script” memorized, but it would be nice for each team member to contribute something to the presentation. The judges want the kids to have a chance at public speaking while in a safe and fun atmosphere!

Q6 Will my team receive any kind of award or recognition?

All teams will be recognized at the Celebration Ceremony. The judges will award each team with a special award and the individual team members will receive JrFLL medals. Every team receives a trophy.

Q7 How many JrFLL Teams will be participating in the Maryland Expo?

We will be accepting registrations for up to 50 JrFLL teams. After that we will be placing team names on a waiting list.

Q8 Does my JrFLL Team need to be registered with FIRST to participate?

Yes, all JrFLL Teams participating in the Maryland Expo must be a registered team with FIRST.

Q9 How much is the JrFLL Maryland Expo registration fee?

Q13 Who do I contact with further questions?

Feel free to contact Tracey Klein with any questions via the Ask a Question link at the top of this page.

Q14 Why do we need to complete the Consent and Release Form?

With so many children and adults in one location FIRST and its affiliates must be sure of the legal status of participants. In addition they reserve rights to use event images and results for marketing. The form will explain the terms and requirements.

Q15 How do we name our team?

The basic identification for your team will be a number assigned by FIRST's registration system. After that it's completely up to you. For example, TechBrick, which sponsors JrFLL, FLL, and FTC teams, created names for its 2007 JrFLL teams: Dreamers and Racers. The JrFLL kids love coming up with names. Have fun, be creative, be original. Many JrFLL/FLL teams create a custom look for each year with crazy costumes and hats.

Q16

Where do I find a Jr.FLL team for my child to join?

We are not able to refer children to existing teams. Since Jr.FLL teams are small with young children, the best thing to do is start your own team! It's easy! Simply find a couple of friends who enjoy legos and start having fun. You'll need to register with FIRST. FIRST will provide you with the information you need. You can use the LEGOs you have or you can find special kits to purchase at www.legoeducation.com

Q17

How many children can be on a JrFLL team?

US FIRST sets the limit at 6. Since we have fixed costs per child/team we have to limit it to this as well. If you have more than 6 you can divide it into two groups under the same team number (A & B or  Cool Cars and Jumpin Jets, etc) and complete two applications for the state tournament. However, you will need to pay $40 per application.
